William Bloom

Author, Educator and Activist

WILLIAM BLOOM is a British author, educator and activist. He is also serving as the founder and director of the Spiritual Companions Trust which is an educational charity that focuses on a holistic and person-centred approach to spirituality and health. He is an author of 26 books including ‘The Endorphin Effect’ and ‘The Power of Modern Spirituality’. His books have been translated into sixteen languages.

William was born and raised in London. His mother named was Freddy Bloom, who was a New York journalist and founder of the National deaf Children’s Society. William’s father was a reputed psychiatrist specializing in psycho-sexual problems. William went to St. Pauls School, London for his early education, but he dropped out the school to become a full-time participant in swinging London, flower power and counter-culture.

He started his career as novelist and publisher. At the age of 25, he worked as a senior commissioning editor at Macmillan’s. He is a co-founder of advisory, which is the first 24-hour immigrant advisory service in London. Along with this, he had been involved in the publication of International Times.

Afterwards, he participated in two-year-long spiritual retreat spending his time in High Atlas Mountains of southern Morocco. This spiritual experience changed his whole life. He earned his doctorate in political psychology from the London School of Economics. After completing his decorates education, he started working with teenagers and adults in special need. William acquired education and Cert.Ed. in that field from Southwark College.

For over thirty years, he has been organizing workshops and giving presentations. He has appeared in many radio and television programs consisting of The Moral Maze, The Soul of Britain and as a judge on The God List. In August 1998, William received the honour to address the UN Oslo Conference on Religion and Belief.
