TARA BRACH is a clinical psychologist, an internationally known teacher of mindfulness meditation and author. She is a proponent of Buddhist meditation and her teachings are a mixture of Western psychology and Eastern spiritual practices, mindful attention to our inner life, and a full, compassionate engagement with our world. Tara founded the Insight Meditation Community of Washington, D.C. This foundation has now become one of the largest and most dynamic non-residential meditation centres in the United State.

Tara specializes in Buddhist teachings and mindfulness meditation and emotional healing. She has been helping people in healing their inner wounds and making their lives more meaningful through meditation. Tara has written many books on many subjects including Radical Acceptance, True Refuge and Radical Compassion.

Tara obtained her bachelor’s degrees in psychology and political science from Clark University. After gaining a bachelor degree, she moved to Fielding Graduate University where she earned doctoral education in clinical psychology. During her studies, Tara kept on working as a grassroots organizer for tenants’ rights. Her love for yoga inspired her to learn it and she started taking yoga classes. After completing college, she lived in an ashram for ten years where she practised and taught both yoga and concentrative meditation. Tara got to attend her first Buddhist Insight Meditation retreat, led by Joseph Goldstein after leaving the ashram.

Tara is also a PhD degree holder. She completed her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the Fielding Institute with a dissertation exploring meditation as a therapeutic modality in treating addiction. She completed her five-year Buddhist teacher training program at the Spirit Rock Meditation Center. Tara teaches Buddhist meditation at centres for meditation and yoga and offers workshops and leads silent meditation retreats across the United States and Europe. Tara has been helping people with emotional healing and spiritual awakening.

Moreover, Tara has been featured in several radio talk shows and writes numerous articles, videos, and hundreds of recorded talks. She offers online courses on mindfulness and compassion. Tara resides with her husband, Jonathan Foust who is a yoga and meditation teacher in Virginia.
