DEEPAK CHOPRA is a speaker and author and has written many books on alternative medicine. He was born and raised in New Delhi, India. Deepak earned his early education at St. Columba’s School in New Delhi. He graduated from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in 1969. In the starting of his career, he spent a few months as a doctor, serving in rural India. Later, he moved to Boston, the United States where he taught at the medical schools of Tufts University, Boston University and Harvard University for a few years. Before starting a private practice in Boston in endocrinology, Deepak was appointed as chief of medicine at New England Memorial Hospital.
During those days of working at New England Memorial Hospital, Deepak read a book on transcendental medicine that played a vital role in changing his life and career path. In 1981, he got to meet Ayurvedic physician Brihaspati Dev Triguna who encouraged him to begin research on Ayurvedic practices. After some time, Deepak resigned from his job of chief of medicine and formed the Maharishi Ayur-Veda Products International in collaboration with Maharishi. He introduced this company successfully in the world of alternative medicine.
Deepak is considered a prolific author. He has written 80 books and has been published in 43 languages. His 22 books were named New York Times bestsellers in both fiction and nonfiction.
