CHRIS GERMER is a psychologist, meditation practitioner and author. He is currently working as a lecturer on psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. As a teacher, Chris encourages and help people practise mindfulness and compassion. He is working in small private practice in Arlington, Massachusetts, USA.

In his early adulthood days, Chris found himself fascinated by the science of psychology and contemplative practice. That is why; he decided to gain undergraduate level education in psychology. After earning a BA degree in psychology, he went abroad for three years, where he conducted research at several well-known institutions. Chris has been influenced by the many varieties of yoga and meditation and visited India several times to learn them even after completing his research. In 1984, he earned a PHD degree in clinical psychology from Temple University.

To provide people right tools and techniques for developing the skills of self-compassion and mindfulness, Chris has co-developed the Mindful Self-Compassion program with the support of Kristin Neff in 2010. In collaboration with Kristin Neff, he also co-authored two books on MSC which obtained impressive popularity among the people. Chris claims that his MSC program has helped over 100,000 people around the world. Chris has been leading workshops and lectures on mindfulness and compassion worldwide.

He is captivated by the idea of self-compassion, which helped him to overcome his decades-long struggle with public speaking anxiety. Chris is a happily married person and living in Cambridge with his wife Claire, who is a molecular biologist.
