ABOUT MATTEO PISTONO<\/strong><\/p>\n

Matteo Pistono\u00a0is known as a writer, teacher of meditation, and student of\u00a0engaged Buddhism. He was born in an Italian-Irish family and raised in\u00a0Wyoming. Pistono completed his undergraduate degree in\u00a0the field of Anthropology\u00a0at the\u00a0University of Wyoming. In 1997, he achieved a Master of Arts degree in\u00a0Indian philosophy\u00a0at the\u00a0School of Oriental and African Studies\u00a0in London.\u00a0He lived and travelled throughout the Himalayas, after working with the\u00a0Smithsonian Institution\u00a0in Washington D.C. on\u00a0Tibetan cultural\u00a0programs. And, during this time he documented evidence of\u00a0human rights abuses\u00a0in Tibet.<\/p>\n

Matteo has also studied meditation extensively with Tibetan Buddhist teachers and shares\u00a0meditation\u00a0and\u00a0pranayama\u00a0techniques in Washington, D.C. Pistono is also known as the founder of Nekorpa, which is a foundation working to protect\u00a0pilgrimage sites\u00a0around the world, and he sits on the executive council of the\u00a0International Network of Engaged Buddhists.<\/p>\n

Matteo’s photos\u00a0and writings about meditation, Buddhism, yoga, and Himalayan and Southeast Asian cultural, political, and spiritual landscapes have appeared in The Washington Post, The Global Post,\u00a0Buddhadharma,\u00a0Tricycle, BBC’s In-Pictures,\u00a0Men’s Journal,\u00a0Kyoto Journal, and\u00a0HIMAL South Asia.<\/p>\n

He holds his name as the author of “Roar:\u00a0Sulak Sivaraksa and the Path of Socially Engaged Buddhism”,\u00a0Fearless in Tibet: The Life of the Mystic Tert\u00f6n Sogyal\u00a0and\u00a0In the Shadow of the Buddha: Secret Journeys, Sacred Histories, and Spiritual Discovery in Tibet, and has written about Tibetan, Himalayan, and Southeast Asian cultural, political, and spiritual landscapes for several outlets including\u00a0The Washington Post,\u00a0Global Post,\u00a0Tricycle: The Buddhist Review,\u00a0Lion’s Roar,\u00a0BBC’s In-Pictures,\u00a0Men’s Journal,\u00a0Kyoto Journal, and\u00a0Himal Southasia.<\/p>\n
